Know what I’m loving right now? Fresh, ripe, juicy melon … with a ton of freshly cracked black pepper.
Pepper’s spiky heat is just the right flavor to complement the funky, sweet-savory taste of the melon. I’ve been getting local melons at the farmers’ market, carving them into wedges and keeping them in a big bowl in the fridge. I’m digging a big slice of melon as a side dish with dinner [try it with a BLT, friends].
I seem to recall my Grandpa eating melon with pepper … and I thought it was weird. Until I tried it.
