On a recent visit to several antique shops, I scored this: a vintage Anchor-Hocking Automatic Food Chopper. I place the word ‘Automatic’ in air quotes, because there’s really nothing automatic about it. But it’s super handy, and it resembles a chopper that was in my mom’s kitchen when I was learning to bake and cook.
It’s simply a glass measuring jar with an aluminum lid and an X-shaped stainless-steel chopping blade that works via a spring-loaded handle. There’s a round wooden disk in the bottom to give the blade a surface to work against. It’s perfect for chopping a cup or so of nuts.
Take that, Slap-Chop!
