I grossly overshot when I purchased the fruit to make homemade blueberry jam last weekend. Pauvre moi. (Poor me.) So I asked Rob to come up with a blueberry-infused summer cocktail suitable for the July Fourth holiday weekend.
This blueberry cocktail recipe was prompted in part by this strawberry/Prosecco cocktail we made when strawberries were in season several weeks ago, though the muddled fruit is the only thing they have in common.
blueberry muddle cocktail
2 oz. vodka
juice of half a lemon
1/2 oz. agave nectar or simple syrup
1 oz. St. Germain
12 blueberries
club soda
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the blueberries. Add other ingredients and shake well. Strain into two ice-filled cocktail glasses (we love 400ml Kimax beakers as barware; a highball would also work). Top with club soda and garnish each glass with 2 or 3 whole blueberries.
St Germain is everyyyyywhere! I love the stuff. My friend, Jodi Womack (http://www.nomorenylons.com) has a recipe for the Snooty Lady cocktail (especially concocted for her Women’s Business Social gatherings) which is something like:
fresh squeezed grape fruit juice, vanilla vodka, and mint
and then I added my own snoot and floated a shimmer of St. Germain on top as a finisher–ZOWEEE! Good stuff. Keep it funky, R&M!
Wow, Dyana! That sounds AMAZING!!
Oooohhh, I LOVE this, definite improvement on an already great thing! xoxo Jodi
Bryn…I love this recipe and plan on serving it for my gourmet cooking group. Cheers! Beth
We made this recipe last Saturday night and it was delicious! Just a note… if you let the muddled blueberry mixture sit for a while (about 20 min), it turns a gorgeous dark pink color. Add the club soda and blueberries and voilà — a beautiful and yummy summer cocktail.
Beth, thanks for the suggestion about letting it “steep” to develop a lovely color. I’m guessing that enhances the flavor, as well!
