15 summer tomato recipes I’m loving right now.

August 1. The very height of tomato season, folks.

[Except for in my garden, which is having a tough year, tomato-wise, for reasons related to a) squirrels and b) Septoria Leaf Wilt. I’ve been buying them like mad from Farm Beach Bethel and Newtown Feed & Supply. But I digress.]

So, you’re thinking to yourself, How can I enjoy as many tomatoes as possible in as many ways as possible? Here you go: My favorite summer tomato recipes for the season. Enjoy!

  1. HeyBrunHi Bryn! Just came across your great blog again – so inspirational! Had me thinking about my tomatoes, which also arent doing as well as I had hoped this year – even though I started 35 varieties based on flavor from Amy Goldman’s heirloom tomato book (brix levels and all!). For me it’s a soil problem, as the an additional 15 varieties in containers are doing much better. Still, they are starting to come in so I need recipes! Long time no hear from you – write me sometime – we freelance folk need to stick together. I also just wrote a book on veg gardening (it’s out in Dec. 18) and just got back from Yunnan where I was plant exploring – not really missing the 9-5 world all that much!). Maybe we can do some kind of project together sometime? Take care – Matt (formerly from Hasbro)

    • Hi, Matt — welcome to the world of independent workers! Your China trip sounds fascinating. And I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one with tomato troubles: my garden is so small that rotating crops isn’t totally feasible, so I think I’m dealing with a disease that’s overwintering. Might need to get creative in placing tomatoes next year. Hope all is well! I’m at bryn@writes4food.com — give me a shout.
